5 WAYS TO TAKE ACTION FOR THE CLIMATE RIGHT NOW

with Olympia Auset

With Global Climate Strike week in full swing, you might be feeling very fired up about going green right now. We’re excited for you!

To get you going, we asked our friend Olympia Auset for her tips on going green, sustainably.:

Easiest, biggest way to reduce your carbon footprint is your fork. If you really care, eliminating animal products from your diet is a delicious, doable first step – the planet will thank you!

Spread the love and resources for sustainability across communities. Most of the world is poor and non-white, so while its awesome to embrace sustainability in mainstream America, we'll have to include everyone if we want it to be worldwide. Support projects that champion these causes in low income communities and in countries across the world. Pressure your fav brands to donate sustainable straws/ wares/ sponsor events in these communities. Suggestions: SÜPRSEED, Pollination Project, Hip Hop is Green.

I became sick of how many clothes I had and went a few years without buying them. Check out "True Cost" on Netflix and think twice before buying something you might use only a few times. What we wear has a tremendous impact on the planet and on the lives of the people making the clothes. Why should people risk their lives so we can look cute? Some resources: Christy Dawn, Thrift Stores, Rent the Runway.

Buying less things you don't need is awesome and a great way to start is with a reusable straw and a few glass tupperware containers.

meditation is a really big piece to this entire puzzle. The better we love and understand ourselves the better we can create solutions and heal our planet. It can start by just giving yourself just 15 minutes of silence a day. If you really want to go for it, check out Vipassana: it changed my life and I look forward to seeing lots of people experience it.
